So in this blog, we would like to tell you why we love Stainless Steel so much and how we feel it is the best metal for so many purposes.

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless Steel is a Iron based alloy, containing at least 11% of Chromium. The addition of Chromium into Iron creates a whole new set of properties. These include a better resistance to heat and of course to rusting.

Rust protection is the result of a passive film which protects the underlying material from the affects of corrosion. Furthermore, in the presence of oxygen, the steel can even heal itself, when combined with Chromium. Pretty amazing stuff, right!

Resistance to corrosion is increased when used in harsh environments. In such cases the chromium content may be higher than 11%, as well as the addition of Nickel. To reduce ‘Pitting’, quite often Molybdenum is added to the alloy.

Therefore it is not only Chromium that we find in Stainless Steel. In fact, depending on the end use of the metal, Stainless Steel may contain traces of Aluminium, Silicon, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Titanium, Nickel, Copper, to mention a few.

How we use Stainless Steels?

As mentioned, Stainless Steel does not rust and where necessary, can be made to be resistant to pitting as well. Not only is it long lasting though, it is incredibly strong, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor Balustrading and Hand Rails. As one of the best known Stainless Steel Fabrication companies in Melbourne, our team take the fabrication process even further, with Stainless Steel sheeting, Wires, tubing and much more.
